Students travel from Edinburgh to London by lawnmower
1959 - Five students reach London after travelling by lawnmower from Edinburgh - 373 miles. Five 21-year-old students from Hatfield Technical College, Herts, began a novel way of spending Easter when they set out from Edinburgh to travel 373 miles by lawnmower, fitted with a trailing seat, for London, to win a bet of a pint of beer each from another student. Each of the students took two-hour shifts driving the motor mower while two others followed in an accompanying car. Photo Shows: Mike Smith, one of the students, and the last shift driver, finished the long run from Scotland by mowing the grass on his arrival in Hyde Park today
