Stuyvesant descendants in church controversy, New York
Feb. 28 Stuyvesant descendants in Church Controversy: A. Van Horne Stuyvesant, said to be the only direct descendant of Peter Stuyvesant, whose vote was challenged by Dr. William Norman Guthrie, rector of St. Mark's in the Bowery, New York, in the Annual Election of Vestrymen. Dr. Guthrie characterises the election as an attempt to remove him from office. Stuyvesant, believed to be the only Pew-Holder in the Church, is shown here with his sister, Anne Stuyvesant, in front of the Bust of Peter Stuyvesant in the Churchyard of St. Mark's. The famous Dutch Governor is buried there
