Sunderland flying boats

Mar. 25, 1961 - 25-3-61 The last Sunderland flies in to become a museum Sunderland Z, the last of the famous Sunderland flying boats, came in to land at Pembroke dock yesterday before being towed ashore to become a permanent memorial. It received a great Civic welcome and a fanfare of trumpets. The Sunderland was the only aircraft in operational service continuously for 21 years and during the war they were based at Pembroke Dock guarding the Western approaches. The Sunderland Z is a gift from the French Navy and flew from Brest. The campaign to organize saving of the last of the Sunderlands was organized by Mr. Peter Thomas, a 35 year old poultry farmer.
