Last Supper painting with Celtic and Rangers scarves
Nov. 11, 1976 - Disciples Wear Soccer Scarves In Last Pub Supper. A London brewery ran an art competition earlier this year, inviting entries on a theme of pubs, beer and brewing. One of the prizewinners showed the Last Supper taking place in a Glasgow pub, with the disciples wearing Celtic and Rangers football scarves, and Judas sliding out of the bar door, apparently not buying his round. The artist was Stewart Johnson, a 38 year old teacher from Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Scotland, and he said I'm simply bringing Jesus into the 20th century setting'. The picture was on show in the Ranelagh public house in Pimlico. later it will be shown in other pubs through the country.
