Swimming - Diving

Feb. 29 Water-babies training for the ballet.: Sychonished swimming schools - schools for water ballerinas have been known for decades in other countries, but the idea has never caught on in Britain until now. The idea of bringing it to Britain came to Dawn Zagjak while she was studying Synchonished Swimming in Hollywood. The beginners are either non swimmers or have very little knowledge of swimming. The Club is made up of a mixed group of varied ability and age - the youngest are seven-year-old operating at the Seymour Hall Swimming Batha in London. In the land training the children are taught to appreciate the feeling of moving in rythmic patterns and exercises. Musical appreciation is fostered. As ballet plays an important part in sychronised swimming, these movements are included in land training, and the children are given a musical theme to interpret. Dawn Zajak claims that the accent on rythm and breathing enhances her pupils racing ability. Photo shows three to one - John Fiandel, Jossette Smith and Dawn Zajak work on a star pupil
