Aug. 08, 1965 - Karen Muir fails to beat her world record. Wonder swimmer, 12-year-old South African, Karen Muir, cried at the Derby Baths, Blackpool, last night, when she failed by just two-tenths of a second to break her world record of 24 hours earlier. Thousands of spectators cheered as Karen easily won the final of the Girls 220 Yards Freestyle, with a time of 2.23.8. The day previous Karen, in a heat, had broken the world record, and became the youngest world record breaker in the history of sport. Her time was 68.7 sec.
