Swimming - Diving

Sep. 09, 1963 - A 14-year-old girl swims the Channel: A 14-year-old girl last night became the youngest ever Channel swimmer. Leonore Modell, from Sacramento, California, landed at Dover after 15 1/2 hours in the water. Leonore is believed to have swum the equivalent of 50 miles to beat the currents and the tide on the 21-mile acrossing. She set off from Cap Gris Nez at 5-30 a.m. yesterday. Photo shows 14-year-old Leonore Model enters the water at Cap gris Nez at the start of her Channel swim
