Jan. 01, 1970 - Hungarian Athlete on Annual Winter Swim Across the Danube When Hungarian athlete Gyorgy Schirilla made his annual swim across the icy Danube in Budapest, he had to fight ice floes as he forged across - in 13 minutes. This spring, Schirilla intends to run from Budapest to Ulyanovsk via Moscow, Leningrad, Viborg and Kazan, distance of 5, 100 km - a new world record - and also swim across the Volga on the way.
