Jun. 06, 1959 - Swimming Champion Rescued When Attacked By Cramp. Young Lady Sweden In First Of Forth.: Swimming champion - twenty three year old Gerda Olsson was fished out of the water by veteran Ned Barnie (62) her coach - and 24 year old motor salesman Tom Elliot when she was suddenly attacked by cramp when swimming in the Firth of Forth yesterday. The cramp stopped Gerda from becoming the first woman to swim the Forth and back. She is daughter of Swedish golfer - and is in training for an attempt on the channel later this year.
