Sylva Zalmanson and Ingrid Bergman in London
Nov. 11, 1974 - Sylva Zalmanson at House of Commons, London: Sylva Zalmanson, the ex-Soviet Jewish Prisoner of Conscience who was recently released after serving four of her ten years labour camp sentence and for whom a world freedom campaign was waged, arrived in London yesterday. Sylva is in London as guest of the 35s (Women's Campaign for Soviet Jewry) and the Board of Deputies of British Jews in order to say thank you to British leaders who helped her achieve her release and to launch a new campaign for the other 34 Soviet Jewish prisoners of Conscience who are serving up to 15 year sentences after applying to go to Israel, amongst whom are her husband Edward and two brothers. This campaign for prisoners commences with Prisoners Month which Sylva launched today at the House of Commons. Eleven Women Members of Parliament, together with Ingrid Berman, Lord Fisher and Lord Shinwell presented Sylva Zalmanson to Parliamentarians and others involved in her release. Sylva is the only Jewish Prisoner of Conscience who has so far been released before the end of her term.
