Synanon - Drug Addicts Rehabilitation Cult Opens

1972, St. James Hospital, Portsmouth, Great Britain: A confrontation with the new entry when the present residence find out why he wishes to stay and his reasons for being a drug addict in the first place. This confrontation is at the first unit in Britain for the rehabilitation of drug addicts, called Alpha, situated in the grounds of St. James Hospital. The Alpha unit is unique, it is a medically directed therapeutic community based on the American Synanon and phoenix therapeutic communities for the rehabilitation of drug addicts. Alpha is a self supporting, independent unit. Although Alpha is directed and controlled by professionals as a research unit in the field of Drug Misuse, its Medical Policy is in no way influenced by Orthodox Psychiatry. Before an addict can enter, he or she, must sit on a chair by the entrance door and decide if he wants to enter. The door is one way, once the addict is in, he can leave at any time, but he cannot return
