Tema, new town and port for Gold Coast, African colony

1954 - Africa starts a new town and port: The Gold Coast, African colony which is moving rapidly toward self-government with British cooperation, has begun the most ambitious construction project in its history the building of a completely new town of 80, 000 people and a harbour. The town, to be called Tema, will be divided into seven self-contained communities, each with its own schools, market, churches and recreational facilities.
