Mar. 03, 1959 - Play-Yourself Table Tennis: Manufacturers from more than 20 countries are showing their wares at the 9th International Toy and Trade Fair at the Hotel Statler Hilton, New York City, March 8 - 13. The British occupy the whole of the hotel's Georgian Room with the products of about 30 different toy makers. Pictures shows Mr. David Petri (right), a young inventor and designer of indoor games, plays his smash with Mr. John Waterfield, British Consul (Commercial) New York at the British exhibit. Smash, an adaption of table tennis in which the ball is hit against an angled back board to bounce down and back, can be played by one or two players, and seems to make indoor exercise available to small-apartment dwellers and small-home owners. Note to Sharp-Eyed Editor: The name (left) printed on the top of the back board is Slash. This spelling has been corrected since the opening of the Fair
