Terence Cuneo painting, woman points to herself
May 05, 1967 - A country Parson's daughter will appear in person and also in a painting of her father's heroism. 80 year old Miss Hardy, a country parson's daughter, will be present when her father's battle heroism is revealed by Field Marshal Sir Richard Hull, Chief of the Defence Staff, when he unveils an oil painting of the Recerend Theodre Bayley Hardy, who won the V.C. D.S.O and M.C during 11 months of the first World War. The picture by Terence Cuneo, is based on a photograph of King George V. investing Mr.Hardy with the V.C in a farmyard in France in Aug. 1918. Standing in the background of the painting is the padre's daughter, who was serving with the Red Cross in France at the time. The Rev. Hardy was already 53 and a country parson when he volunteered to become a champlain to the forces in 1916 and insisted on going to France. He won the D.S.O first for sitting with a dying soldier under heavy fire in no man's land. Afterwards he won the M.C for helping stretcher bearers during an attack. His V.V citation records several further instances of his courage in rescuing and comforting wounded soldiers. He died of wounds in Oct. 1918
