Testing the new BBC TV mast at Crystal Palace, London
Nov. 11, 1977 - Testing the new B.B.C. Television mast with the aid of rockets - at Crystal palace: The new B.B.C. Television Mast - which is 700ft. high - underwent an aerodynamic test today - when a battery of ten rockets mounted on the tower at a height of 625ft. above ground level - and fired in sequence. The rockets were a fixture - and when fired - each one created a thrust of half a ton. Any movement of the tower being recorded on electron equipment in a mobile laboratory. The tests were conducted in conjunction with the National Physical Laboratory - and the Royal Aircraft establishment.
