Oct. 23, 1978 - Radar gun catches speeding motorists: Hundreds of motorists facing speeding prosecutions after being trapped by a new Radar Gun which police have been using since the beginning of the month. The device, costing £800 and resembling a hair dryer, is pointed at an oncoming vehicle, while hand held by a policeman, to obtain an instant speed reading. Made in Canada and designed by a former German V-Rocket engineer, it is the first new radar speed equipment to be introduced to Britain for 16 years.
