Tibetan mastiffs with Sherpa keeper in Nepal
Tibetian MASTIFFS PRESENT TO PRESIDENT EISENHOWER TO BE SENT TO THE WHITE HOUSE. A pair of Tibetian Mastiffs have been presented by the Nepal Goverment to President Eisenhower. The presentation was made to MR. Paul W. Rose, Director of the United States Operations Mission to Nepal, with a request that they should be sent to the White House. These Mastiffs-which are cousins to the Pyrenean Mountain Dog- and the Chow-but which have thicker and shaggier coats-are thought to be the first of this breed to be sent to the United States.. They are a ferocious breed-and are difficult to train. During the time they stayed at the home of Mr N.P. Thapa, the Nepalese Foreign Secretary-the dogs ate pounds of meat and drank ten pints of milk-every day. This pair was brought from Kyerong, Tibet..
