Tony Meadows and family in World Orienteering event

Jan. 28, 1976 - January 28th 1976 - Concorde pilot and his family to compete in the World Orienteering Championships. Tony Meadows, 41-year-old Concorde pilot, who is used to travelling at considerable speed, is to take part, with members of his family, in the forthcoming World Orienteering championships which are being held at the skiing resort of Aviemore in the Scottish Highlands in September. Teams of five men and five women from 23 countries will compete in an event which is as big a test of intelligence, humour and navigation as it is of fitness. Orienteering is rather like a poor man's car rally - only on foot finding your way through thick forest, up hills and over streams to reach a series of checkpoints in the right order, armed with a map, a compass and a whistle. Said Tony Meadows : I may travel 23 miles a minute in Concorde, but I reckon I only get one mile in 23 minutes when I'm orienteering.
