Topol, musical star, outside Israeli Embassy, London
Jun. 06, 1967 - Topol's Flight to Israel Cancelled - Musical star Topol went home to his London Flat last night after waiting for eight hours at Heathrow Airport to fly to Israel. El Al, the Israeli Airline, said that on instructions from Tel Aviv they had cancelled all flights to Israel. No reason was given. But, they said, Topol might be flown out today. Topol, star of Fiddler on the Roof at Her Majesty's Theatre, handed the part to his understudy George Little, when he heard war had started, and went to the airport with his wife and child. When he learned the flight was cancelled, 32 year old Topol, who is to command the entertainment of Israeli troops said: I am very dissapointed'.
