Tough headmaster returns to school, Chatham, Kent

Jun. 06, 1979 - Pupils clock on as tough head returns: The Headmaster who defeated an education authority's attempt to sack him continued to take a tough disciplinary line at his school yesterday. Boys were pulled up for wearing loose ties or dirty shoes. Mr. John Price, 49, returned to his first day of schooling after the half-term holiday to a sackload of letters congratulating him on his high court victory over the Conservative controlled Kent County Council. Ten days ago, Mr Justice McNeil ruled that the authority could not try Mr Price on disciplinary charges because the Governors of his school, Walderslade Secondary County Council claimed that Mr Price was suspending too many pupils. Yesterday, Mr Price, who is a true blue Tory, admitted that he had suspended well over 100 pupils since arriving at the school nearly five years ago. Photo shows Under the watchful eye of the headmaster, Mr. John Price (R), and his proctor, Mr Roger Shord, a pupil demonstrating yesterday the clock-on routine for boys on disciplinary charges at Walderslade Secondary Modern School for Boys, Chatham, Kent
