Tower crane on show prior to building works, West London
1962 - The World's highest travelling Tower Crane goes into action. A traveling building crane, claimed to be the highest traveling crane in the world was on show today giving a demonstration before beginning work helping to build three 18-storey blocks at Maida Vale, West London. The crane is 270 feet high, weighs 60 tons, and travels on a rail track 450 feet long. It can lift weights up to 10 tons, and was built by a French Company.
