Sep. 09, 1953 - Gordon Pirie and his colleauges gives Britain new world record.: The British team comprising Gordon Pirie; Bill Nankeville; Ralph Dunkley and David Law set up a new world record of 15 min. 27.2 secs in the 4 x 1, 500 metres event during the Britain - Sweden - Germany athletic meeting at White City last evening. They knocked three seconds off the previous record. Just as the British runners had finished came the news from Budapest, behind the Iron Curtain, that a Hungarian team had cracked the world's time with 15 min 29.2secs two seconds slower than the new British time. Photo shows Gordon Pirie who turned an eight yard deficit into a ten yard lead hands over to eager Bill Nankeville for the last lap
