Track And Field - Decathlon - Javelin
Jun. 06, 1954 - MOTHER OF TWO BIDS FOR ATHLETICS TITLE. Mrs. Iris Pond, Southern Countries and Middlesex champion and International Hurdler, is competing at the Women's A.A.A. meeting at the White City on Saturday. Apart from her ordinary training on the track at Alperton, Iris has the assistance of her two sons, Barry, aged 6 and Anthony, aged 8. at her home at Uxbridge when it was discovered that, when sitting on two bricks, Barry exactly measured up to the regulation hurdle height of 2 feet six inches. The yard broom with Anthony at the other end - completed the obstacle.
