Sep. 09, 1956 - Gordon Pirie Breaks World Record: The famous British runner, Gordon Pirie, running at Malmoe, Sweden, on Tuesday, broke the world record for 3, 000 Metres, with a time of 7 mins. 52.8 secs. Istvan Rozsavcelgyi of Hungary was second, and Sandor Iharos, also of Hungary, was third.
