Track And Field - Decathlon - Javelin

Mar. 03, 1958 - She's the fastest girl on Earth: The Australian sprinter, Marlen Mathews is pictured here soon after she had broken the world record for the 200 yards with a time of 23.4 secs in the Australian Championships at the Sydney Sports Ground last week-end. Two days earlier, Marlene set up a new world figure at 10.5 secs in winning the 100 yards. Marlene is the girl who 15 months ago wasn't hood enough to be picked for the women's relay in the 1956 Olympics. She was heartbroken when the Games selectors passed her over, and even thought about retiring. Now she is the fastest girl in the world
