Track And Field - Decathlon - Javelin

1960 - New Athletic Track at White City The New Athletic Track at the White City has been completely relaid, and was tested for the first time this afternoon by Gordon Pirie, Brian Hewson, Peter Radford, and Miss Mary Bignall. The entire top dressing was removed and the base renovated with 200 cubic yards of clinker, 600 cubic yards of top dressing was put down. An important feature of the new track is that it is now dual distance. The kerb stones have been resited so that the inside measurement is 400 metres and move able kerb stones at one end can be put down to provide a 440 yards circuit. It will now be possible to change from yards to metres quite quickly. Keystone Photo Shows: Seen trying out the new track at the White City today are (L to R) Gordon Pirie, Mary Bignall, Brian Hewson, and Peter Radford. The resited kerb stones can be seen
