Sep. 09, 1961 - Pirie's Winning Farewell: A light on the track burst into brilliance tonight at London's White City Stadium when Gordon Pirie (No. 20 hit the tape to win in the 5, 000 metres (men), in the England vs. Russia track and field meet. This was Piriess swan-song for it brought to an end ten seasons of his turbulent track career. Photo shows Pirie winning the race - behind him and coming up to the tape is England's reserve J. H. Snowden (No. 4) who came second
