Apr. 17, 1964 - Japanese runner beats Tokyo's Olympic Marathon record: Kenji Kimihara, Japan's champion Marathon runner set a new record last weekend for the 42, 195 km course with a time of 2hrs, 17mins. 11.4 secs. 75 runners part in the race which started and finished in the Olympic Stadium over the course which will be used in the forthcoming Tokyo Olympics. In spite of trouble with his hip, Kimihara finished 400 meters ahead of the runner up. Photo shows Kenji Kimihara enters the Tokyo Olympic Stadium on the last lap of his record breaking run
