Aug. 08, 1964 - Mum Coaches Olympic Athlete - Janet Simpson Nineteen year old Sprinter.: Among the athletes selected yesterday by the British Amateur Athletic Board for the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo was 19 year old art student from Nottingham - Janet Simpson. She has been selected for the 200 metres and sprint relay events. Janet's mother is Mrs. Vi Simpson who finished fifth in the 100 metres event in the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles, and who won a bronze medal with Britain's sprint relay squad. She was 17 year old VI WEBB then. Four years later Vi Competed in the Berlin Olympics and reached the semi-final of the 100 metres. Now Mrs. Simpson is coaching her daughter for the great event.
