Jun. 04, 1964 - Jean Wadoux beats 1, 000 meters record: Yesterday night at the International Saint Maur athletism meeting, France Jean Wadoux, one of the most serious contender at the Olympics this year, beat the 1, 000 meters record which was held by his teacher and teammate Michel Jazy by 5 tenths of a second in 2'18'6. Jazy who was unable to run the race shouted encouragements to his pupil and was one of the first to congratulate him after the announcement of the record.
