Aug. 08, 1964 - Whip Round for Olympic Wife. Workmates of champion road walker Ken Matthews have collected more than £300, so that his wife can cheer him on at the Olympic Games. Ken a 30 year old fitter mate, is European Walking Champion and has held the British title for five years. He will be bidding for a Gold medal in the 28 kilometer walk in Tokyo this year. His workmates at the Hams Hall Power Station, Birmingham, know that Ken gives of his best when his wife Sheila is watching but when she is not there Ken in liable to blow up like he did in the 1960 Rome Olympics. Besides the collection, the Electrical Trades Union has contributed £50 towards the fund. Sheila, who is a Civil Servant will be taking her annual holiday to go to Tokyo.
