Jun. 06, 1971 - Dave Bedford smashes the European, UK and All-Comers 5, 000 metres record in Edinburgh: Dave Bedford, of Hendon, the 21 year old athlete who gave up his job to concentrate on athletics, proved he was right by smashing the European, U.K. national and all-comers 5, 000 metres record in 13 min 22.2 secs at the British International Games at Meadowbank, Edinburgh, yesterday. His time was 5.6 secs outside the world record set up by Australian Ron Clarke at Stockholm five years ago.
