Track And Field - Decathlon - Javelin

Jul. 07, 1971 - SO SAD BEDFORD BEATER BY PULLED HAMSTRING. LONDON: A strained Hamstring brought European record-holder DAVID BEDFORD'S attempt at Australian Ron Clarke's 5, 000 metres world record to a premature and at Crystal Palace this afternoon. With four laps to go and well inside his world record schedule, Bedord's face was filled with pain. To the groans of a capacity 14, 000 crowd he stepped off the track.. Bedford is seen in this picture crying in agony as he is helped away from the scene of his abortive record attempt. Twenty year old Bedford was competing at the A.A.A. Championships staged at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre
