Aug. 16, 1979 - Sebastian Coe Smashes the World 1500 Metres Record in Zurich. For the third time in 41 days, 22 years old Sebastian Coe broke a world record, in Zurich las night he beat an International field by 70 yards for a time of 3 minutes 32.03 secs to clip almost a fifth of a second of the old record set by Tanzania's Filbert Bayi five years ago. He already holds the world record for the 800 metres, and the one mile. No man in history has ever held all three records simultaneously until now.
