May 05, 1959 - Cup Final Express Derailed At Seventy Miles An Hour-Only Casualties Are A Few Injured: More than 300 passengers had amazing escapes last night when an express train carrying football fans to London for today's Cup Final split in two at 70 m.p.h. outside Slough, Buckinghamshire, station and crashed. Six coaches came off the rails. One finished on its side and three others rested at angles up to 45 degrees. And only six people were injured, five of whom were discharged from hospital after being treated for cuts and bruises. The crash is believed to have been caused by a broken rail. The express was travelling from Pembroke Dock, South Wales, to London. Photo shows.
