Twin Pioneer new plane with near helicopter performance

Sep. 09, 1955 - New Plane Has Almost Helicopter Performance: A new fixed-wing plane with, according to its manufacturers, a near-to-helicopter performance has made its debut in Britain. It is Scottish Aviation Ltd's Twin Pioneer which can land with a run of only 50 yards. A 16-seater, it came about after nine years of research and planning for an aircraft to serve isolated communities in the rugged Scottish Highlands and act as feeder to international air routes. Airborne and landing speeds are less than 50 mph. Photo shows the Twin Pioneer comes in for its slow landing
