Underwriting Room, Lloyds of London, ready for opening

Nov. 11, 1957 - Lloyds new Building to be Opened by Queen Mother. Underwriting Room is 320 Ft. long and 120 ft. wide: Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother is to open the Lloyds New building and Constructed in Lime Street, on Thursday 14th. November. The building occupies a rectangular site extending between Lime Street and Billiter Street. The main part of the building is occupied by the Underwriting Room which has a gallery on all sides and provides about 44, 240 sq.ft. of underwriting space - with an additional 10, 250 sq. ft. available if required. The Room - measures 340ft. long and 120 ft wide - and the gallery floor is supported by pillars, leaving an open area with glass Facing throughout the room are in marble and it has rubber floors. The famous Lutine Bell has been installed on the restrum - in the new underwriting Room.
