Nov. 11, 1957 - Lloyd's New building to be opened by the Queen mother, underwriting room measures 340 ft. by 120 ft.; Queen Elizabeth the Queen mother is to perform the ceremony of opening the new building for Lloyd's of London - in Lime Street on Thursday 14th. November. The building occupies a rectangular site extended between Lime street and Billiter Street. The center of the building is the amazing underwriting room which measures 340 ft, by 120 ft. with galleries supported on pillars leaving an open central space with glass. It provides about 44, 240 sq. ft. of underwriting space with an additional 10, 250 sq. ft. available if required. Facings throughout the room are in marble and it has rubber floors. The famous Lutine bell has been installed on the rostrum in the Underwriting Room.
