Unexploded bomb found in Plaistow, East London
Aug. 08, 1974 - Huge World War II Bomb Unearthed.: 2, 000 people were last night evacuated from their homes in East London, when a 2, 500 lb World War II German bomb, one of the biggest found in Britain, was unearthed on a building site in Plaistow. It was dug out from the foot of a tower block of flats by an excavator driver. The bomb was in two parts - 800 lb of TNT attached to a detonating device, and a further 1, 700 lb of explosives buried deeper into the ground.
