Uniformed man at new style holiday centre, Butlitz

Mar. 27 Butlitz': A Holiday To Remember!: A Cross between a Butlins holiday camp and the feared Colditz prisoner of war castle in Germany, is a new-style holiday centre for those who like to suffer, 24 prisoners have willingly paid for a weekend they'll never forget - 72 hours of cold, damp, hunger, humiliation, fear and misery inside the Butlitz holiday camp, housed in a former isolation hospital on Salisbury Plaim. Steely-eyed Commandant of the camp is 41 year old Bob Acraman, a former paratrooper Sergeant who proudly claimed to have given the holidaymakers absolute hell'. Night Parades, punishment drills, Nazi music and speeches, sessions in the Cooler, barbed wire and lookout tears gave the inmates a taste of what it's like to be a prisoner of war. Some did manage to escape to the local pub on Saturday night. but were swiftly brought back to the camp. The authentically uniformed Nazi staff were played by members of the Battle Re-enactment Association, a group who like to dress up as GIs, Tommies or SS staff at the weekends.
