Sep. 09, 1976 - Seamen's Threatened Strike Is Called Off After 22 Hours Of Talks: Efforts to avert a national seamen's strike met with success today after 22 hours of talks between employers and leaders of the National Union of Seamen. Following the end of the talks the union leaders went back to their Clapham, London, HQ with the employers offer of a package of fringe benefits to place it before the union executive, who accepted the offer by 9 votes to 7.
