Oct. 10, 1943 - Fifth Army's Salerno fight - success and Cava : Mortans and infantry of Fifth Army Division, made an attack on the enemy holding the heights each side of the defile North East of Vietri (along the Coast West of Salerno) early on the morning of the 23rd September 1943. All objectives were taken and many prisoners brought in. Loving in front of the Tanks, the Royal Engineers Advanced Northwards up to the Main Road to Cava, to remove enemy mines and repair the demolished bridge in the town.
