Feb. 23, 1953 - St. George the Aristocatic shoeblack of Piccadilly. He never charges women.: Quite a well known personality in Piccadilly these days is the Aristocatic Shoeblack in the shape of 58 year old Vivian de Gurr St. George, who claims to descend from an ancient baronetoy. He also declares that he is rather a snob - and that if he sees a Man of the wrong type - not intelligent, no breeding, arrogant etc - he simply asks him to go elsewhere. He also never charges women when he polished their shoes - for he says he would be embarrassed to take money from women. He says that he earns about ?10 a week shining shoes at 9d. a time. He keeps the family crest beside his box when he works in Picadilly - shining shoes. Photo shows with the family crest alongside - Vivian de Gurr St. George polishes the shoes of 18 year old Joyce Bailey of Greenford - in Picadilly today
