1953 - Electronic Nose On Show: An Electronic Nose was a novelty on show at the Physical Society Exhibition, . which opened at the Imperial College, Kensington, today. A simple device which can be held in the hand, it can detect any smell, pleasant or unpleasant, long before the sharpest human nose. It can record the moisture content of different objects and the minutes changes in atmospheric humidity, but it cannot distinguish rose scene from ammonia. The invention, known as a hygrometer, consists partly of a miniature condenser in the form of a fine wire probe/.
