1953 - Nine now dead in tube disaster. Nine people were known today to have died in the Central Line tube disaster at Stratford, the worst in the London's Underground history. It was the second coach of the Eeling Broadway-Epping train which took the brunt of the crash. The train ran into the rear of another train traveling from Greenford to Hainsult.
