Aug. 15, 1953 - National town criers championship at Hastings: A record number of 26 townriers competed in the annual championships at Hastings today, The eriers in traditional dress and with bells were rowed to an island in the middle of the main lake in Alexandra Park. then, one by one, their Oyez Oyez was cried across 75 yards of water to the ears of the judges in the park.
