Mar. 03, 1954 - Giant Crane in London Big Alphonse, a French tower crane more than 300ft. high at its fullest extent, has been erected on an LCC building site at Wandsworth. The crane, which is self-erecting and telescopic, will be used in the building of several eleven-storey blocks of flats for the LCC. It si the tallest tower crane in Britain, and the radius of its jib is 78ft. Through a circle of 360 degrees. Its lifting capacity is 3-tons at a reach of 23ft. progressively reducing to 15 cuts at the farthest extent of the jib.
