1953 - Six hundred year old custom Throwing the hood, Lincolnshire tradition; The ancient six hundred year old tradition of throwing the hood was held once again at Haxey, Isle of Axholme, Lincolnshire, recently. During the game the men of the village in the area struggle to gain the Hood and their reward of beer from the local taverns.
