Feb. 02, 1955 - Village Turns Out To Bid Farewell To American Family: Practically the whole population of the village of Cassington, Oxfordshire-turned out yesterday to bid farewell to an American family who were returning to their home in Illionois after living in the village for three years. the family was Master Sergeant Jack Lyons his wife Kitty and their seven year old twins Tyrella and John. many of the villagers were in tears-for during their three years stay the family had created so many great friendships. Jack Lyons had:-opened a fund to put a new bell in the Village Church; Provided timber for a Village Sports Pavillion; Raised100 a year for village Church fetes; Collected hundreds of pounds for charity by showing home movies; Organised Parties and pantomimes for children and helped the Cubs and the Scouts and he had sponsored solid friendship between the tradition minded Cassingtonians and the modern-minded American Service men.
