Aug. 08, 1955 - Experts Investigating Runaway Tanks Riddle. Four Men Killed At Salisbury Army Camp: Four men were killed yesterday and four were seriously injured when a tank started to move on the Parking ground at Tilshead Camp - Salisbury. This tank crashed into two more sending them lumbering 150 yards down the hill. As the guards shouted warning and frantically blew whistled - the tanks zig-zagged down the slope flattening everything in their paths including tents in which men were sleeping. The lives men were killed outright and two died later. Official investigations are being carried out into the cause of the disaster. The tanks were Charioteers - one of Britain's latest tanks - which are still on the secrets list. Photo shows Reconstruction of the tragedy at Tilshead Camp, Salisbury. The tanks tore their way through the tents (open space in centre) and finished on the right
